International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) Training

IPAF Training Categories

The law requires that employees must be properly trained on the equipment they use at work. The most widely recognised proof of professional training for Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) operatives, is the International Powered Access Federation’s (IPAF) Powered Access Licence (PAL Card). It’s awarded to operators who successfully complete training and is valid for five years.

IPAF MEWP operator training courses instruct an applicant to prepare for and safely operate various types of MEWPs. They generally last 1 – 3 days dependent on the applicant, machine category (1a, 1b, 3a, 3b) and size etc. They involve a combination of both theory and practical testing. Successful applicants get a training certificate, PAL Card and an operators’ User Log Book.

They also provide Instructor, Demonstrator and Competent Assessed Person (CAP) training, as well as the Load and Unload for delivery drivers, and a Harness use and inspection course for operators of boom type platforms.
