What is the correct definition of Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP)?

A ‘Mobile Elevating Work Platform’ is a mobile machine which consists as a minimum of a work platform with controls, an extending structure and chassis; that is intended for work at height. Original source of Definition is attributed to the British Standard BS 8460:2017 Safe use of MEWPs – Code of Practice. There are many other names for describing MEWPs, such as AWPs or EWPs, but this largely depends on where you live in the world.

Perhaps the most widely recognised is the use of the term ‘Powered Access’. There are also regional, manufacturer or common terms, which include descriptions such as pop-up; power tower; low-level access; scissor lift; sigma lift; aerial lift; hydraulic lift; flying carpet; trailer mount; van mount; van platform; boom truck; truck mount; bucket truck; spider lift; tracked spider; cherry picker and aerial platform!
